I actually drank a fair amount of Stroh’s back in the day. Not the greatest beer in the world, but the price was right.

As a Detroiter I feel compelled to say its my favorite shitty beer. I also used to live in one of their old complexes and the have a new one out based off their original recipe.

My step dad drank Stroh’s when he worked as a janitor at my school. The other janitors got to calling me “stroh’s lite”. This brings back memories.

I should buy some and try it again. It’s been years.

There are a bunch of Stroh’s ads on Youtube. I remember all of them.

So, marketing term aimed at the people in my college dorm. Got it.

So, not that. :)

Bohemian-style Pilsner as opposed to a German Pilsner. Bohemia being what is now the Czech Republic.
They’re a bit darker and nuttier.

Yeah, that, or the region in central Europe where that style pilsner comes from.

Okay. That would make sense, but I was wondering if it were a real difference based on something like you said, or just a marketing term to appeal to a group in America that would be willing to pay more for a mass produced pilsner.

You know, that makes sense. But what am I supposed to do? Research?

Among actual German and Czech brewers there’s a difference in flavor, but I have no idea among a cheap American beer. I doubt it tastes like a real czech pilsner. And yeah, paying more for a different style pilsner from the same brand doesn’t make sense.
The original pilsner, Urquell, is still being brewed and is a great hot day beer. Goes great with pizza. In the Czech Republic it’s dirt cheap, but over here it’s a bit pricey (around $10 for a sixxer).

This can be fun research

In general, I shy away from anything by an American brewer called a pilsner. I know it may not be fair universally, but I put them all in the weak urine water category.

Yeah, historically american pilsners have sucked. One that’s good is Oskar Blues “Mama’s Little Yella Pils”. It’s not a heavy beer, but it isn’t piss water either.
